Our History

Together we are making a difference.

Lake Marion Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of the Summerton community since its founding as a mission in 1956. Originally established by Summerton Baptist Church to serve families in the Lake Marion area, our church quickly became a spiritual home for many. With a strong foundation built on faith, we have continued to grow, providing a welcoming place for worship, fellowship, and service. Today, we remain dedicated to our mission of sharing the Gospel and serving both our local community and visitors, staying true to our roots while looking forward to the future.

Our Beliefs

At Lake Marion Baptist Church, our beliefs are foundational to everything we do. Grounded in Scripture and centered on Christ, these core doctrines guide our faith and practice. We invite you to explore what we believe and how it shapes our community.

Our Core Beliefs:

  • The Bible: We believe that the Scripture, all 66 books of the combined Old and New Testaments, is the verbally inspired and infallible Word of God. It is inerrant in the original writings and serves as the Christian’s final authority in faith and conduct.
    • Scripture References: 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105

  • God: We believe there is only one true, living, sovereign, holy, and eternally existent God, who is infinitely perfect and exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
    • Scripture References: Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

  • Jesus Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ is the incarnation of the Son of God. He was born of a virgin, became fully man without ceasing to be fully God, and came to redeem humanity. He died for the sins of all people as a substitutionary sacrifice, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is exalted at the right hand of God. His return is both personal and imminent.
    • Scripture References: John 1:1, 14; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

  • Salvation: We believe that salvation is a free gift from God, obtained through personal faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is not secured by any human virtue, work, ceremony, or effort.
    • Scripture References: Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Titus 3:5

  • Man: We believe that man was created by a direct act of God in His image, but sinned, incurring God’s judgment. All people inherit a sinful nature and are in need of redemption.
    • Scripture References: Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12

  • Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ, convicts the world of sin, regenerates believers, baptizes them into the Church (the body of Christ), and transforms them into the likeness of Christ as they submit to Him.
    • Scripture References: John 16:7-14; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 5:22-23

  • The Eternal State: We believe that the souls of believers immediately pass into Christ’s presence upon death, where they remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection, when their souls will be reunited with glorified bodies to live with Him forever.
    • Scripture References: 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 21:1-4

  • Hell and Satan: We believe that hell is a place of eternal punishment and separation from God. Satan, a fallen angel and author of the fall of man, is the Christian’s defeated enemy and will face eternal punishment in hell.
    • Scripture References: Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10; 1 Peter 5:8; John 8:44

  • The Church: We believe that the true Church is composed of all who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit through saving faith in Jesus Christ. Membership in the Church requires a regenerate heart, confession of faith, baptism by immersion, and a consistent Christian life.
    • Scripture References: Acts 2:41-42; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 6:4

  • Ordinances: We believe Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances: Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances are symbolic reminders of His sacrifice and our new life in Him, though they are not means of salvation.
    • Scripture References: Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
